On Thursday, Lion Country Safari had their annual Christmas with the Chimps event.
During the holiday event, Santa Claus throws wrapped packages to the Chimpanzees that contain either hay, seeds, peanuts, dried fruit, or items from their regular diet.
The Chimps know there are great treats in the boxes, and that's why they get so excited when Santa approaches. According to park officials, the event is a celebration, but it also serves as enrichment for the chimps.
"It keeps them stimulated, moving around, and foraging, which is really important for their mental and physical well-being," said Haley Passeser, public relations specialist at the park.
