Man arrested for filming women and girls in stalls at South Florida mall

SUNRISE, FL - A man was arrested after he allegedly used a cellphone to take pictures of woman and girls in bathroom stalls at a South Florida mall.

Sunrise police say the suspect, identified as Fernando Cabrera Barbosa, was caught using a cellphone to take pictures of women and girls in restroom stalls at the Oasis area of the Sawgrass Mills mall.

According to police, a 13-year-old noticed a cellphone peeking over the wall of the stall she was using. When she climbed up to see who was behind the camera, the teen saw someone holding a cellphone over the opposite stall’s wall.

The girl left the restroom and told another shopper who went into the restroom and waited for the person to exit the stall.

When Cabrera Barbosa exited, the female shopper grabbed hold of him by the backpack he was wearing and yelled “you’re a man. What are you doing in the girls’ bathroom?!”

Cabrera Barbosa broke free and left the restroom, but the female shopper called for help and was aided in subduing him until police arrived.

Officers placed him under arrest.

While speaking with investigators the man admitted that he had a fetish that was “out of control.”

He was charged with video voyeurism involving a child younger than 16.

Bond was set at $60,000 during his first court appearance Tuesday.
