It's no secret that dogs have a keen sense of smell and know when their owner has been around another dog. However, just how detailed is the dogs sense of smell? Can they tell what type of dog it is they're smelling?
Here's the back story! I have a miniature dachshund named Bella and if I ever come home smelling like another dog, she definitely knows it. I just assumed this was because most dogs are bigger than her and left more of a sense of smell behind. However, yesterday, I was with my friend's German Shepherd and he could definitely smell Bella on me and was so curious and excited about this new dog smell.
So my question is, could the Shepherd tell I smelled like a little dog or did he just know it was a dog? Vets? Dog experts? Advice!
