Only a couple months after two documentaries surrounding the Fyre Festival aired on Netflix and Hulu, Manhattanâs US Attorneyâs Office announced they will auction the festival's official merchandise with proceeds going towards the victims that were scammed from the event.
According to Vulture, two boxes worth of authentic Fyre Fest merch, including shirts and pants, will be auctioned to help pay back some $26 million that Billy McFarland owes to people he cheated.
âWe have an assortment of the âreal thingâ Fyre Festival-branded tee-shirts, sweatpants, sweatshirts, hats, wristbands and medallions,â a spokesman for the United States Marshals Serviceâs Manhattan office said in an email, also writing, âWe know that there is tremendous interest in these items in the NY metro area in particular.â
Billy McFarland was sentenced to six years in federal lockup in October for orchestrating the massive festival scam. McFarlandâs defense lawyer turned in the boxes of merch after the sentencing.
Information as to when the auction will take place and the exact items for sale has yet to be released.
