TGL Golf: Golf Mixed In With New-Age Technology

Tomorrow’s Golf League has taken the sports world by storm. With next-level golf being played on a screen that is nearly 24 times larger than a standard golf simulator to a green that has over 500 motorized actuators, the technology has led to fun, fast-paced competitive golf for the viewer and player.

With the addition of a shot clock and timeouts, both of these additions can increase the pressure of making a great shot. Timeouts can be used for a team to recollect and reassess a shot or to freeze an opponent before their shot. The shot clock has led to quicker gameplay than traditional PGA Tour golf. If a player violates the shot clock, they receive a one-shot penalty.

The state-of-the-art technology that TGL has implemented into their field of play allows for the green to be set to different environments for every hole. The advanced green rotates a 41-yard wide area to change the approach angle to the green’s topography.

In TGL, players/teams are competing for one point per hole. The hammer is a new addition that adds some uniqueness to every game by allowing a team the chance to make an extra point. According to TGL, the hammer "is a game modifier that will change the hole value by adding one point to the value."

The Los Angeles Golf Club dominated Tiger Woods and the Jupiter Links team on Tiger’s debut night. Tiger came out and tried asserting his dominance early by using the hammer, which may be a strategy for teams in the future. I had the chance to ask Tiger about this strategy at the post-match press conference.

With TGL taking the sports world by storm, TGL Golf has a future in entertaining sports fans. With the first two matches being won by a landslide, the viewer is yet to see a highly competitive match.
