Zoo Hires Marvin Gaye Impersonator To Get Their Macaque Monkeys In The Mood

The Trentham Monkey Forest in Stafford, England tried an unconventional way to get their low-mojoed macaques to mate.

The zoo hired an experienced Marvin Gaye impersonator named David Largie to perform inside the Barbary macaque habitat in an attempt bid to get the endangered monkeys to breed. Largie performed several tunes from Gaye's soulful catalog including "Let's Get It On" and "Sexual Healing".

According to the zoo's website, "We thought it could be a creative way to encourage our females to show a little affection to males that might not have been so lucky in love," Park Director Matt Lovatt explained. "Females in season mate with several males so paternity among our furry residents is never known. Each birth is vital to the species with Barbary macaques being classed as endangered."

Lovatt also explained for those that need a "birds and bees" lesson, that they'll find out whether the visit had any effect on the monkeys when birthing season rolls around in late spring or early summer.
