Nicole Kidman is opening up about her new venture as a death doula.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the Practical Magic actress, 58, revealed that she is learning to become a "death doula" during a talk for the University of San Francisco's Silk Speaker Series on Saturday (April 11). Death doulas, or end-of-life doulas, provide non-medical and compassionate support to individuals and families navigating the end of a loved one's life, according to the International End-of-Life Doula Association.

Admitting that the idea "may sound a little weird," Kidman explained that it stems from her mother Janelle Kidman's death in September 2024, per People.

"As my mother was passing, she was lonely, and there was only so much the family could provide," she said,

Kidman cited her and younger sister Antonia Kidman's own familial and professional responsibilities. The Big Little Lies actress has four children while her sister has six.

"Between my sister and I, we have so many children and our careers and our work, and wanting to take care of her because my father wasn't in the world anymore, and that's when I went, 'I wish there was these people in the world that were there to sit impartially and just provide solace and care,'" she said, adding, "So that's part of my expansion and one of the things I will be learning."
