Okeechobee Music Festival 2022 is finally over, and after catching up on the needed sleep, the anticipation of next year's event starts to roll in. Once you enter the portal to Okeechobee Music Festival, you never want to leave. With this being the 5th anniversary of the event, Okeechobee Music Festival came back bigger and better than ever.

This year's festival had fantastic weather, and everyone was happy to be out and enjoying themselves as we slowly moved on from the pandemic. The festival had a vast selection of music ranging from the funk of George Clinton to hip hop sensation Megan Thee Stallion, to the jazzy electronic set by Griz. The weekend consisted of amazing music, tons of activities, and a community ready to enjoy a concert again.

Besides the music, there were plenty of activities and art installations to check out all over the campground. The artistic performers helped enhance the overall environment. One out-of-this-world concept was the "Frick Frack Blackjack" casino, where attendees played blackjack by betting only weird items. From starting every morning with hundreds of people doing Yoga to relaxing at a tea lounge to volleyball at Aquachobee beach, theirs always unique experiences when adventuring around Okeechobee Music Festival.

Besides experiencing the fun inside the festival, the party never stops in the campground. The Jungle 51 stage was open until the sun came up. If you were adventuring around the campgrounds, you could find RV's setting up their own Dj sets. There was always a party somewhere on the campgrounds if you looked for it.

While at Okeechobee Music Festival, I had the pleasure of sitting down with two up & coming DJs in the EDM World. Also, I had the chance to stop by multiple non-profit organizations that were set up in Participation Row.

HoneyLuv

HoneyLuv started Djing through the suggestion of her friends because she always played the best music while on car rides. She had an excellent selection of music because the Aquachobee stage did not stop moving and grooving on Sunday during her set. Taylor Character, aka HoneyLuv, went from playing college basketball at Cincinnati to the flight deck of a Navy ship to now touring the world playing house music. We spent time talking about how she used twitch streaming as a way to build her brand during Covid Lockdown. Be on the lookout for HoneyLuv returning to South Florida during Miami Music Week at the Sagamore Hotel on 3/23 and the National Hotel on the 3/25.

Covex

Covex started making electronic music when he was 13 and described his music as "Indie pop electronic." He considered Okeechobee Music Festival to be one of the coolest shows he has ever played. His music influences come from DJs like Kasbo & The 1975. Recently, he released his debut album "A Change of Perspective," which he made during the height of Covid Lockdown. Creating the album helped Covex through the difficult mental times of the pandemic. He said he "loves to get in the studio and keep experimenting, and I plan on never setting a limit to my sound." The most important thing to Covex is always to have fun making music and "not getting too wound up about it being work." The next stop on Covex's tour in Texas and his album "A Change of Perspective" are available on all major platforms.

Participation Row

One area that always had a positive vibe was Participation Row. This village within the festival was where volunteers encouraged festival attendees to verify their voter registration status at the HeadCount Tent. Some non-profits included were the Healthy Start Coalition, the Treasure Coast Food Bank, and Martha's House. After visiting 4 of the 7 local non-profits, attendees were given Tony's Chocolonely chocolate and entered to win a custom D'Angelico Guitar signed by multiple festival artists like Megan Thee Stallion and Griz. It was great seeing local Palm Beach/Okeechobee non-profit organizations being active at the festival.

With Okeechobee Music Festival 2022 being over, the wait begins until the next time we return to the beautiful Sunshine Groove of Okeechobee, Florida. Overall, the festival was one for the books and left attendees with plenty of memories. Do not miss the next Insomniac event in South Florida on March 26th at the Nautical Hotel during Miami Music Week. See you next time, Okeechobeeings!
