I was a journalism major in college, and the one thing they made sure we perfected was utilizing proper grammar. Now, I realize that sometimes I'm off my game a little bit, but I do take pride in using the tools I was taught.
Microsoft compiled data from millions of its Word and Outlook users to come up with a list of the most common grammar errors.
The top ten errors include (click here for examples):
- Leaving too many white spaces between words
- Missing a comma
- Missing a comma after an introductory phrase
- Missing a hyphen
- Incorrect subject-verb agreement
- Incorrect capitalization
- Mixing up possessive and plural forms
- Incorrect agreement with noun phrases
- Commonly confused words
- Incorrect verb form after auxiliary
