Florida Senate budget writers have agreed to end the approval of funding for Bachelor Degree programs being offered at schools like Palm Beach State College and others around the state.

Senate Budget Chariman Joe Negron of Stuart says there are now 175 four-year programs being offered at state colleges, formerly known as community colleges.  These schools are supposed to focus on two-year degrees.

Lawmakers believe these programs have state colleges now competing with universities.

Negron says they need to stop and take a look at the system.
