A Florida appeals court is ruling that universities can't enact regulations regarding guns on campus.
The 1st District Court of Appeal yesterday handed out a ruling against the University of North Florida. A student there challenged a university rule that prevents students from bringing guns to campus and storing them in their cars.
The court ruled, however, that the Florida Legislature has pre-empted the regulation of guns by local governments and state agencies and that this includes state universities.
A spokeswoman for UNF says that the university is reviewing the case and has not yet decided whether to appeal the ruling.
