The Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County has confirmed the second locally-acquired case of chikungunya fever.

The Palm Beach Post reports a 48 year old man contracted the normally non-fatal virus.  Earlier this month, a 50 year old man was hospitalized for a short time after coming down with the virus.

A majority of the people with the mosquito-borne illness contracted it while outside the country.

Symptoms include fever and severe joint pain.

Residents are urged to drain any standing water, wearing long sleeves from dusk to dawn and the use of mosquito repellent.  You should also check the screens and doors around your home, to be sure they are not allowing in any of the pests.
