Fla's Elderly Urged to Prepare for Hurricane Season

Fla's Elderly Urged to Prepare for Hurricane Season

If you have elderly parents, you may want to help them get ready for hurricane season.

Florida emergency officials say people with mobility issues or health problems should register with emergency management officials for extra help in the event of a major storm.

The state Department of Elder Affairs wants all older Floridians to plan now for what they will do if a storm strikes.   They say it's important to know where older seniors will go if a storm approaches and to leave well ahead of the hurricane.

The agency is urging people to prepare evacuation kits with a supply of their regular prescription medications, water, flashlights, non-perishable foods and other items they might need if they get stuck on the road while evacuating.

Don't forget about the sales tax holiday on hurricane supplies, which goes into effect on Saturday, one day ahead of hurricane season.
